Police have arrested one suspect following three aggravated robbery incidents reported on January 6, 2026, in Nsimbiziwome and Kigowa One, Bukoto Two Parish, Nakawa Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the robberies occurred within a short time span and involved gangs moving on motorcycles.
“The first incident was reported at around 9pm in Nsimbiziwome, where a teacher, Patrick Kasasa, was attacked by thugs riding on motorcycles and robbed of several electronic items,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
The stolen items included a Samsung Galaxy phone, a second-generation Chromebook, a Dell laptop and a Galaxy tablet, all valued at about Shs4 million.
Shortly after, at around 9:50pm, Police received reports of two more robberies along Valley Road in Kigowa.
In the first case, Shadia Namaganda, a businesswoman, was robbed of an iPhone 11 Pro Max, an Itel button phone, her National ID and cash, with the total value estimated at Shs3.5 million.
In the second incident, Musobya Bosco, a driver, was attacked and robbed of a Samsung Galaxy phone, a wallet containing a driving permit and National ID, and cash valued at about Shs420,000.
ASP Owoyesigyire said police from Ntinda and Kiwatule police stations mounted a coordinated response, visited and documented all the scenes of crime, and pursued the suspects after being tipped off by members of the public.
“During the operation, officers conducted a chase along the Northern Bypass where one suspect, identified as Joseph Wataba, was intercepted,” Owoyesigyire said.
“The suspect attempted to attack officers with a panga and was neutralised, arrested and later taken to Mulago Hospital for medical attention pending prosecution.”
Police recovered one motorcycle, registration number UMA 582HF, a panga and a Galaxy tablet believed to be linked to the robberies. Other suspects, however, managed to escape.
ASP Owoyesigyire said investigations are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and recover more stolen property.
